This program will provide GSAR Members-in-Training with an understanding of the “big picture” structure and responsibilities for SAR in BC.
The SAR training model begins with the foundational Ground Search and Rescue training, which is required in order to be recognized as an EMBC-supported SAR volunteer.
Program Description
The Ground Search and Rescue program is the combination of several courses that are delivered through local SAR Groups and online through self-study. Courses include a combination of overall awareness of search and rescue practices as well as the development of critical skills required for participating in various types of operations.
Course Delivery
When the Ground Search and Rescue (GSAR) course is running, training is more intensive. It runs for 5 evenings and a full day Saturday for 1 week for three months. It ends with an overnight exercise that runs Saturday to Sunday.
