Organized avalanche response members are team members trained to operate safely in avalanche terrain in order to perform rescues or other tasks related to avalanche operations. Kamloops Search and Rescue currently has qualified members who train with other SAR teams and ski resorts to assist in operations involving avalanches.
Some responsibilities of the avalanche response team:
- Go-no-go decision making
- Group safety measures
- Safe travel in avalanche terrain
- Snow pack observations
- Equipment use
GSAR members can apply to become an Organized Avalanche Response Team member with the option of becoming an OAR Team Leader at a later date.
